One day, M’s life turned upside down. I, aged 10 years old, was complaining of headaches, and the next day there was an emergency craniotomy to remove a brain tumor. He has since undergone radiation and chemotherapy. The family needed to move and relocate over 30 miles just to be closer to the Children’s Hospital for 5 days a week treatments. As a single mom working as a social worker for Holocaust survivors and raising I and her 15 year old daughter, M does not have time to cook, and I’s diet is very limited. Food became prohibitively expensive, rent increased due to the new community, and her hours decreased given the needs of her son. Life’s Angels was able to provide a grant that helped set this family on a more structured and comfortable path.
